Magic Foods

There is a difference between eating and filling stomach. I have nothing against western food like pizza and pasta but unfortunately, they are not rich food. Rich does not necessarily mean expensive. One must try and incorporate all the 6 tastes (Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent, Astringent) in diet as recommended by Ayurveda. Also, one must take care to eat different kinds of vegetable (green and otherwise), fruits, dry fruits (almonds, anjeer, walnut, munakka, raisin, pista, penut), cereals (not just wheat and rice), spices (teej patta, kalonji, flax seed etc.), herbs (Arjun ki chaal, Tulsi, Mulethi), juices (amla, aloevera, tulsi, sugarcane) etc. as part of daily or atleast weekly diet. Larger the spread of basic ingredient, richer the food. There were times when so many options of cereals, vegetables, spices, fruits, dry fruits etc. were available only to elite class, but today it is available at touch of screen.

While eating food one must concentrate on taste of food rather than concentrating on mobile phone/TV for proper digestion. Dinner MUST be completed atleast 3 hours before sleep for proper digestion. Else, while we sleep, our stomach keeps working on digestion. Is it a good idea to make your stomach work while you are sleeping?

Here is a list of vey basic food habit, designed to boost immunity, improve heath, sharpen mind and provide a solid base for future. Specific benefits are mentioned alongside food.

Anti-disease Powder: Take Haldi and Neem (tablet or powder form) in empty stomach. When your stomach digests food, it invariably leaves back bacteria, fungus and free Oxygen radical. These are the major source of any disease and your aging process Haldi and Neem  acts as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial (anti-bacteria, anti-viruses, and anti-fungi), anti-malarial, anti-depressant, anti-aging, anti-diabetic and anti-septic. So, having them empty stomach in morning is MOST powerful medicine you can have in your life.

Yogic tea: Your morning tea can be source of powerhouse. A yogic tea has 6 main ingredients i.e. tea, grated ginger, clove, cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper. One may add other ingredients as required. Milk may be added afterwards. Honey or Jaggery may be used for sweetening purpose. This tea helps get rid AMA (Ayurveda word for poison).

Wonder Flour: Normally we eat wheat flour. It is recommended to add half kg each of Soya, Channa, ragi and (Bajra in winter and Jawar in Summer) in 8 kg of wheat. Composition can be changed if required. Soya and channa have significant protein. For vegetarians and Indian (irregular) non-vegetarians it helps to be more active throughout the day. Effects can be seen in 3-4 days. Protein (soya, channa etc.) is the food for Muladhara Chakra (Earth element) and helps stabilize Muladhara Chakra in long run (3-4 months). Person gets sense of stability in life. Also, it is recommended for the people with back pain as likely reason of this pain may be inactive Muladhara Chakra.

This flour is rich in Protein, Calcium and Iron which is especially wonderful for growing kids, ladies, old age people and during pregnancy. One can also add Quinoa which is rich in Vitamin B and dietary minerals.

Divine Curd: Curd mixed with honey (try for pure and raw honey) is a divine food. This is the food for Svadhisthana Chakra (water) which brings fun and enjoyment in life. It helps stabilize Svadhisthana Chakra in long run (3-4 months). Sperm count in male and reproductive system in female gets boost from this curd. It certainly brings glow in the body. This curd is mostly taken as dessert by French people after lunch and one can imagine how fun loving, enjoying, romantic and glowing they are. Remember we say that one should eat curd and sugar (dhai sakkar) before going for an important work? Well, right combination is curd & honey and what we are actually trying to do here is activate Svadhisthana Chakra so that we feel happy and joyful. When a person is happy and joyful, any work becomes easy.

Magic Milk: Before you sleep, one sould have the magic milk. Mix raw haldi (if possible, otherwise powder haldi) and black pepper with milk.

Black pepper is called king of spices for a reason. Haldi is an all-round spice with lots of wonderful benefits. Taking haldi with black pepper increases the health benefits of haldi by atleast 20 times (there are scientific studies to prove this). It is like mini-packet of drug which no side effect. One can easily find it by the name of golden milk. It keeps person’s mind sharp & alert and helps get rid of depression.

If one is allergic to milk, combination of haldi and black pepper can be taken with honey (preferred if person’s sugar is on lower side) or with plain water also.

Spice Garden: Salt, pepper and sugar form the basic indigents of any cooking. Most people use commonly available iodized salt at home. However, use of himaliyan pink rock salt (Sindha namak) is very necessary for daily use. It contains 84 minerials that is required by our body. Occasional use of black salt is also required to keep body and mind fit.

Black pepper in daily cooking is super MUST.  It is high on anti-oxidants and has anti-inflamatory properties. When ingested daily, it prevents development of cancerous cells.

Refined Sugar (white sugar) that we normally use in kitchen is as good as slow poison. It has no nutritional value and lacks any essential proteins, minerals and vitamins. Sugar is one of the worst and most toxic ingredients in the diet. It can have harmful effects on our metabolism and contribute to the development of numerous serious health conditions and diseases. It MUST be replaced by Jaggery (Gur), Powder Jaggery (Sakkar) and/or honey to the extent possible.
