Most powerful Puja process:

We perform many kinds of Puja like Diwali Pujan, Vastu Puja, Shiv Manshik Puja and the list goes on and on. Most of the time they are performed by pandits who are proficient in such rituals. Little do we understand the meaning of these rituals and consequently, when our young ones ask about the purpose that these puja serve, we have no good answer. This leads them to think that performing puja is a waste of time, resources and money.

If we take some time and understand the depth of what we do, we shall find that all these rituals are actually very logical and can help us significantly. The key is to understand is following:

1) Look at the literal meaning of the words.

2) We have always said that God is within us, so the offering that we make to God is actually the offering that we can make to ourselves and fellow human beings.

The puja process that is being written below is called षोडशोपचार, षोडश meaning 16 and उपचार means Treatment. This 16 treatment is part of a larger and more elaborate चतु: षष्ठी उपचार or 64 treatment. Hence, you might have heard things a little bit different in the way it is being presented here. 

This puja is versatile and can be performed either internally, externally or mentally. It can also be used to perform any hawan/puja like Guru Puja, Puja of any deity, Diwali puja etc etc by replacing the "देवाय" with the name of the deity for which puja is performed. 

Most Importantly, the things mentioned below MUST be incorporated in our daily lives. REMEMBER THE KEY PROVIDED for deeper understanding.

ॐ अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपिवा ।।
यः स्मरेत्पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्यभ्यन्तरः शुचिः ॥

If one is Apavitra (Impure) or Pavitra (Pure), or even in all other conditions, He who remembers Pundarikaksha (Another name of Sri Vishnu, literally meaning with Lotus-like Eyes), He becomes Pure outwardly as well as inwardly.

Wash hands and drink water 3 times (saying ॐ केशवाय नमः ॐ नारायणाय नमः ॐ माधवाय नमः) and wash hands again

1. Offer flowers for calling - देवाय नमः - आवाहनम समर्पयामि
2. Offer aashan for seating - देवाय नमः - आसनंम समर्पयामि
3. Offer water for bath - देवाय स्नानं समर्पयामि
4. Offer Panch-Amrit bath देवाय पंचामृत समर्पयामि
5. Offer clothes/ Undergarments - देवाय वास्त्रं, उप -वस्त्र समर्पयामि
6. Offer Janeu देवाय यज्ञपवीतं समर्पयामि
7. Offer Perfume - देवाय गन्धं समर्पयामि
8. Offer Chandan - देवाय चन्दनं समर्पयामि
9. Offer Flower/Garland - देवाय पुष्पं समर्पयामि
10. Offer lighted agarbati (dhup) - देवाय धूपं समर्पयामि
11. Offer lighted Diya - देवाय दीपं समर्पयामि
12. Offer water देवाय - आचमनीयं समर्पयामि
13. Offer Food - देवाय नैवेद्यं समर्पयामि
14. Offer betel leaf/nut - देवाय ताम्बूलं समर्पयामि
15. Offer Coconut - देवाय श्रीफलं समर्पयामि
16. Aarti to be recited now

Offer 3 pradaksnina (means to walk around)

देवाय प्रदक्षिणं समर्पयामि

यानि कानि च पापानि जन्मांतर कृतानि च।
तानि सवार्णि नश्यन्तु प्रदक्षिणे पदे-पदे।।

अर्थ:- जाने-अनजाने में किए गए और पूर्वजन्मों के सारे पाप प्रदक्षिणा के साथ-साथ नष्ट हो जाए। परमेश्वर मुझे सद्बुद्धि प्रदान करें।
